    Jonah Learns a Lesson

    Link: http://www.epa.gov/safewater/kids/watertreatmentplant/index.html

Click on this URL to follow a drop of water through a treatment plant. What did you learn about how water follows a path? Do you think it helps people know where to go when they have a path to follow? Explain.

Sometimes you can get lost even when you have a path to follow. Try to find the way that will lead you through the maze at this site. What was confusing about the maze? Would it have helped you to have had a guide? Why or why not?

Following God’s direction is always the right choice, but sometimes we can get lost or confused. There are things and people in the world who would like us to stay confused! But God offers us a lighted path complete with a guide.

Ask a family member to read Psalm 119:105 and John 16:13. Then discuss and answer the following questions:
    • What is the light along God’s path? How does the light help us follow God’s direction?
    • Who is our guide on life’s path?

PRAY God, teach us to follow you.

Read the illustrated presentation at the Child Bible Story Online page. Then go to the Life of Christ website where you will find articles, maps, charts, and studies about Jesus. As you browse both websites, look for examples of Jesus meeting needs. Each time that you find a time when Jesus showed that he cared, make a star on the left-hand side of a piece of paper, lining the stars vertically one under the other. Then discuss these questions as a family:

    • How has Jesus shown that he cares for people?
    • In what ways has Jesus shown his love for you by meeting your needs?
    • Explain what it means to you personally to know that Jesus cares for you. Does it affect the way you look at needs in your own life? How?

Take the paper with the stars and write “Jesus Cares for Us” at the top of it. Mount the page in a visible spot in your home such as the refrigerator. Encourage family members to write or draw an example next to a star of how they have experienced Jesus caring for them throughout the week.

How is Jesus like a life preserver? Find out as you make this reminder of today’s Key Verse on page 1202 of your Hands-On Bible™!

    Paul Teaches in Athens

    Link:

    http://www.cyberhymnal.org/top/g/god.htm?http://www.cyberhymnal.org/top/g/godcreat.htm

Check out this site that lists hymns and songs about creation. Some of the song titles include “Earth’s Mighty Maker” and “New Wonders of Thy Mighty Hand.”
    • Why would the Creator of the Universe be powerful and mighty?

Take a few moments to consider these thoughts and questions:
    • God is the Creator of all things. He is mighty. He is awesome. He is powerful and sovereign. And he is the Christian’s protector. To whom should you turn when you need guidance?
    • What should you remember when you are afraid?
    • In Athens, Paul preached about the God who created the world. He taught the people that this was the true God, the only God, and that we were his “offspring.” Then Paul explained that we can “live in God.” What do you think Paul meant?
    • If we live in God, does that give us access to his knowledge, guidance, and power as the Creator?
    • How does that make you feel?

PRAY God, thank you that because we are your children, we can live in you. We can trust you with every aspect of our lives. You will lead us and guide us. You will never betray us. We are safe in your arms. Amen.

Stephen Forgives His Accusers as They Stone Him

    Link:

    http://www.goodthings.com/01_00_gl74.html

Click on this URL and scroll down to the heading, “A Priceless Valentine.” Read this story about the assignment one boy’s teacher gave her students’ parents.
    • What made the assignment so special?
    • What did you learn about using good words and actions?
    • Do you think that this letter will be remembered by the son? Why or why not?

Consider using this mother’s letter to her son as an example, and write “good letters” to members of your family.

    Link:

    http://www.nichemarketingideas.com/2/biblestoriesweb/39.htm

After reading the story of Stephen, think over these questions:
    • How do you normally respond when someone hurts your feelings?
    • Is it more difficult to forgive someone who has hurt you, especially after you have shown them love?
    • How did Stephen show forgiveness?
    • What actions might go with forgiveness?

Showing love through actions often involves forgiveness. In our own strength, that is sometimes a difficult thing to do. Thankfully, God has provided examples of love and forgiveness through saints like Stephen, and ultimately through his own son, Jesus.

Browse these websites that show pictures of people from many different walks of life. Some are homeless. Others are hungry. Some are poor. Discuss what it would be like to trade places with any of these people.

Read Acts 2:42-47 as a family and discuss the following items:
    • What were some of the activities in which the people in Acts 2 participated?
    • How did the believers in the Acts 2 church take care of each other?
    • How should Christians care for one another today?

    http://inventors.about.com/library/weekly/aa100197.htm

Go to this URL to learn about the history of writing. From drawings to words penned by quill implements, humans have developed a system for recording their thoughts and communicating them to others.

    Link:

    http://www.privateline.com/TelephoneHistory/History1.htm

You’re going to love the variety of this website. With diagrams to experiments you can do as a family, this history of the telephone tells it all.

    Link:

    http://www.netvalley.com/intval1.html

Take a moment to read the history of the Internet that is presented at this URL. Communication has certainly become more technological!

Communication tools have advanced over hundreds of years, from written symbols on papyrus to words flung across the world via Internet. The methods to communicate today are many in number, even more than those we have read about as we studied the reports at these websites. How does this affect our ability to tell the world about Jesus?

Spend time as a family, thinking of ways that you can tell others about a risen Christ.

Consider the various tips regarding wills and inheritance that are offered at these websites. Then think about your “heavenly” inheritance.

Read 1 Peter 1:3-9 as a family and discuss the following items:
    • Describe the inheritance that is explained in this passage of Scripture. How is a heavenly inheritance different from an inheritance on earth?
    • What promises does God make regarding heaven? Why should this give us hope?
    • How can we obtain this “heavenly” inheritance?

Spend a few moments in prayer, thanking Jesus for paying the price of salvation so that we could be the children of God and inherit eternal life.

Surf these websites that show pictures of butterflies in the various stages of their lives. There are activities and coloring pages at the Enchanted Learning site that younger members of the family will enjoy. You will see the entire life cycle of the butterfly at the Virtual Museum website. Be sure to watch closely as the butterfly leaves the pupa case.

Let each family member participate as you discuss the following questions:
    • How does a caterpillar in a pupa case remind you of Jesus in the tomb?
    • How does a butterfly coming out of the pupa case remind you of Jesus coming to life again after his crucifixion and burial?

Enjoy a family art project where each person sketches his or her favorite butterfly or caterpillar. Tape the drawings in a prominent place as a reminder that Jesus came back to life and is alive!

    Crowds Welcome Jesus to Jerusalem

    Link: http://www.christianitytoday.com/tc/2000/002/11.39.html

Take this True/False test about Jesus’ grand entrance into Jerusalem. Then scroll down for a look at the answers! How did you do?

    Link:

    http://www.time.com/time/

When Jesus rode into Jerusalem on what we celebrate as Palm Sunday, the people praised him as a King. They thought Jesus would make a wonderful government official! Choose two or three stories from the Time website that involve influential people. Read the articles and think about the qualities that make people leaders.

Discuss the following questions as a family:
    • Name several leaders from history. What made them famous?
    • Who are some people from today’s world that you consider worthy of praise? What qualities do these persons possess that you might want to emulate?
    • Why is Jesus worthy of our praise?
